Beach break-in arrests

(h/t to KHUM)

From Humboldt County Sheriff's office:

On 05-31-2010 at 1:41 PM, Deputy Larson responded to Luffenholtz Beach, Scenic Drive, Trinidad for a reported burglary to an unattended vehicle.  It was discovered that the suspect(s) had broken a window of the vehicle and removed personal property of the victim.

While Deputy Larson was gathering information from the victim, she noticed a vehicle pass her with two males acting suspicious, speeding away from her.  She requested the assistance of Deputy Lundie to investigate the vehicle and occupants.

The vehicle was stopped and found to be occupied by Thomas Dwayne Jones (33 of Eureka) and Jimmy Dwayne Strawn (33 of Eureka).  Located in the vehicle was the stolen property from the current investigation and stolen property from three (3) other recent known vehicle burglaries.  There was also property found of four (4) other potential burglary victims, whom Deputies are currently trying to locate.  This accounts for eight potential vehicle burglaries, four known and four pending a criminal report.

Strawn and Jones were arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, conspiracy and possession of burglary tools.  Jones was also booked for suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind those who enjoy our local beaches to please take valuables with them or lock them in a secure area of your vehicle.  Most vehicle burglaries we investigate are when valuable items are left in view and the burglar breaks a window to collect those items.  Taking valuables with you or securing them out of sight and locked may deter a potential burglar.

It is also of great assistance to investigating Deputies to have serial numbers from any stolen property.  Please take the time to note serial numbers from cell phones, cameras, or any item that contains a serial number.  Place a list of these serial numbers in a safe location in the event you are ever a victim of a theft.
