Coastal Commission appointment today on Coastal Currents

Today at noon, Humboldt Baykeeper Executive Director Pete Nichols discusses the upcoming Coastal Commission appointment with Mike Dronkers on KHUM 104.3 FM. You can listen here.

This is a big deal, folks! Someone will represent the North Coast interests on the commission. So far, Third District Supervisor Mark Lovelace, a longtime advocate for the environment, has stepped forward as a nominee; we expect more nominees to come forth as well.

International Coastal Cleanup – this Saturday, Sept. 25

Join Surfrider at Trinidad Head and State Beach this Saturday, Sept. 25, where we’ll not only have a Surf 4 Peace booth, but also hosting a Beach Cleanup in honor of International Coastal Cleanup Day! Surf 4 Peace starts at 8 a.m. and the beach clean-up will take place from 9 a.m. till noon.

Threat to College Cove?

From Trinidad resident Larry Goldberg comes word of a potential development that could seriously and negatively impact College Cove. A town hall meeting is scheduled for Monday night at 7 p.m. in Trinidad’s town hall. (Flyer attached below.)

Neely picked as new chair of Coastal Commission

The California Coastal Commission selected Bonnie Neely of Eureka as the new chairperson this week, culminating a behind-the-scenes struggle in which rival commissioner William Burke mounted an aggressive campaign for the top job.
