Join us for June's Ocean Night at Arcata Theater Lounge! This month we are screening Vey Nou Lagon and The Fisherman's Son, plus a local Lifeguard presentation.
Thursday, June 7. Doors
Doors open at 6:30pm, films from 7-9pm
"Vey nou Lagon is an inspirational film that follows a traditional artisanal fisherman and his family as they tell us the story of the Mauritian lagoons and show us the current state of the ocean. Vey nou Lagon highlights the local heroes and success stories of Mauritius and Rodrigues, an autonomous outer island of Mauritius. Fishermen from the two islands provide solutions and inspire others to take simple actions at the individual level to make a difference."
The Fisherman's Son highlights Ramón Navarro, who "found a voice through big wave surfing. One wave enabled him to make a lasting difference in his hometown, Punta de Lobos, Chile. Because of Ramon and other passionate individuals, that coast, it’s waves, fish and abundant resources for the local way of life, has been preserved."
There will also be a presentation on local lifeguarding, including a discussion on the local Junior Guards program and a seasonal summer life guard program for patrolling the State Park beaches.
As always, there will be a wonderful raffle! $3 suggested donation and free to Surfrider/NEC/Baykeeper members. All proceeds go to Humboldt Surfrider, the NEC, and Humboldt Baykeeper.
