Ocean Night! This Thursday! It's a BIG DEAL!

Hello, ocean lovers!

Below is the info for June's Ocean Night event, which is special for a number of reasons, specifically:

1. We're celebrating the completion of the Marine Life Protection Act along California's coast.
2. We're showing Disney's Oceans movie!
3. We're raffling a surfboard and a painting (both locally crafted) to benefit the family of Heather Bonser-Bishop.

Yay!

So join Humboldt Baykeeper, Ocean Conservancy and Humboldt Surfrider in celebrating the adoption of California's newest ocean parks at Ocean Night, Thursday, June 7 at the Arcata Theatre Lounge. The all-ages event includes a rare and beautiful look below the sea with Disney's Oceans movie, plus Grey Whale Sessions, the story of four artists-surfers traveling through Baja.

In addition to the usual raffle, this Ocean Night features a surfboard shaped by Flying Fish's Mark McClenden and an original Matt Beard painting, the proceeds of which will benefit the family of Heather Bonser-Bishop, a 39-year-old mother, nonprofit consultant and active community member in Trinidad, who drowned April 28 while paddle boarding with her husband and two daughters on the Chetco River.

Raffle tickets may be purchased in advance at the Neighborhood Board Shop, 685 11th St., Arcata, and Flying Fish Surfboards, 2006 Fourth St., Eureka, as well as during Ocean Night.

A donation of $3 is requested at the door. Films start at 7 p.m.

See you there!
