PG&E WaveConnect update, public workshops

From PG&E WaveConnect rep Ian Caliendo:

I am writing to let you know about the status of the PG&E WaveConnect wave energy study project. The proposed project is to develop a small-scale pilot project that would allow several wave energy technologies to provide power to the coastal communities while demonstrating the potential for this clean renewable energy resource. To kick things off, we will be holding public workshops in Humboldt and Mendocino Counties as the first of a series of public involvement meetings for the proposed pilot project. The workshops will be in an open house format, providing an opportunity for the public to learn about the proposed pilot project, ask questions of the project team staff, and learn about how to get involved.

More specifically, information will be available regarding:

    • Project overview and schedule
    • Environmental review process and permitting
    • Maps of study areas
    • Current and future public involvement opportunities
    • Wave energy technologies

These meetings will be held near to each proposed project location:

May 18, 6pm-8:30pm, Dana Gray Elementary School Auditorium, 1197 East Chestnut St. Fort Bragg, CA 95437

May 19, 6pm-8:30pm, Wharfinger Building, One Marina Way, Eureka, CA 95501

We are working with Kearns & West, a public involvement firm, to design and facilitate an appropriate public participation process. In an effort to better understand the questions, concerns, and interests of the public and especially those of you involved thus far, Kearns & West will be conducting some informal interviews. You may be contacted by Kearns & West to schedule a confidential interview at a time of your convenience.

In the meantime, you should feel free to email or call me if you have any questions. For those of you who are unaware, I have moved from my former position as the local government and public affairs representative for PG&E on the North Coast, although I remain the appropriate contact for wave energy-related questions. My current contacts are below the signature.
