San Francisco Approves a Citywide Bag Ban

San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors unanimously voted last week to expand their plastic shopping bag ban to include all retail stores throughout the waterfront city. San Francisco became the first city in the country to ban plastic bags at grocery stores and drug stores with an ordinance passed in 2007. The expanded regulations call for customers to pay a 10-cent surcharge for paper bags at the point of purchase, and the businesses can keep the proceeds. The new law affects all retailers effective this October.  Read the article here
