EUREKA -- “Upwelling,” an art show featuring current works by Shawn Griggs, Spencer Reynolds and Matt Beard, is on display through Jan. 12 at Eureka Art and Frame Co., 1636 F St.

A reception for the artists will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, and features live music by Likwefi.

”The three of us all have a common thread in our artwork of surfing the waters of the Pacific Northwest. We've all been invited to participate in various projects and events outside of the area, but have never shown together locally. We figured it was about time,” said Beard.

Griggs, of Ferndale, is known for his bold, colorful depictions of the rugged North Coast and for skeleton people. For more information, visit www.redeyelaboratories.com.

Reynolds, of Brookings, Ore., focuses much of his work on colorful renderings of waves. For more information, visit www.artandsurf.com.

Beard is known locally for doing surf shop murals as well as graphics work for Humboldt Nutrients and A Fertile World. He also does coastal landscapes, and one of his depictions of a surf community was published in 2008 in the Surfer's Journal.
